Tumbled Travertine Mosaic Chips, Pores & Square Modules

Natural Travertine in a Square Mosaic Grid

The selected configuration uses small square pieces of natural travertine arranged as a repeat mosaic. Mineral bands, pores and cream-to-beige variation belong to the stone. The chip size and layout are chosen for the project, with mesh-backed sheets or scheduled modules where appropriate. This is not a printed travertine-look ceramic surface.

Tumbled Travertine Edges & Surface Character

The tumbled finish softens the visual edge of the small stone pieces. It creates a different joint appearance from a sharp sawn square or a polished marble mosaic. The accepted finish reference establishes the intended amount of edge wear and surface texture.

Mosaic Backing, Module Divisions & Loose Pieces

The mosaic can come as mesh-backed sheets, labeled modules or loose pieces to suit the layout; the backing only holds the pattern for handling. The order records module dimensions, joints and any loose edge or repair pieces, so sheet divisions never show as lines in the finished field.

Travertine Face Pores & Selected Fill Treatment

Travertine naturally contains voids. The stone selection identifies whether face pores are left open or treated, and how that choice relates to the intended appearance and cleaning. Surface filling does not eliminate every internal cavity. Cut chips and perimeter pieces can expose different openings, so their treatment belongs in the fabrication detail.

Tumbled Edges & Mosaic Joints

A softened edge changes the mouth of each joint even when the spacing between chips is even, so the grout color is chosen with that edge and the stone. Chip spacing, joint depth and grout finish work together.

Travertine Color Distribution & Border Pieces

Natural variation is distributed across the field instead of treated as a printed repeat. The layout records any border, niche edge, return or cut termination that needs separate pieces. Where filled and unfilled areas or stronger bands are present, the accepted material range establishes how they are allocated.

Travertine Mosaic Sheet Layout, Joints & Installation Fit

Chip Size, Module Size & Continuous Joints

The layout records the small square chip size apart from the module and its repeat pitch, and the internal spacing continues across module boundaries. A dry layout of the actual material shows how adjacent sheets meet and how the tumbled edges affect the grout line.

Borders, Corners & Travertine Cut Pieces

Finished width and height determine where the square grid reaches edges, niches and returns. Border cuts can reveal fresh pores and sharper edges than the tumbled faces. The schedule identifies those exposed cuts and their treatment, along with any loose pieces needed to finish a corner without an abrupt pattern break.

Travertine Backing, Grout & Intended Exposure

The selected stone, mesh or backing, adhesive and grout must suit the actual substrate and exposure. Wet floors, showers and exterior locations require their own material and installation review, including any required slip and drainage data.

Tumbled Travertine Mosaic Cost Factors

Travertine Selection, Chip Size & Tumbled Finish

Stone, chip geometry, thickness and finishing work set the material price, and smaller pieces or a controlled color arrangement add cutting and assembly. The quote follows the chosen module and approved finish.

Mosaic Sheets, Backing & Layout Details

Mesh sheets, labeled custom modules and loose pieces have different assembly and receiving arrangements, so our quote names the backing, joint layout and module divisions. Borders and special termination pieces are listed as their own items.

Net Area, Perimeter Cuts & Spare Pieces

Net surface area is the starting point for the layout. Edges, corners, pattern direction and unusable cut-offs affect how many modules are needed. Spares are scheduled as an explicit quantity; a universal waste percentage is not added to every room regardless of its shape.

Stone Protection, Delivery & Local Setting

Packing protects small stone edges and keeps module or area labels with the material, and freight depends on quantity and destination. Substrate preparation, waterproofing, adhesive, grout, sealing and installation are included only where listed. Tell us the rooms and quantities and we will put this on one quote with everything else you are ordering, and show you what fits in a container.

Tumbled Travertine Square Mosaic FAQs

Are these natural travertine mosaic tiles or a stone-look print?

The specified material is natural travertine cut into square mosaic pieces. Mineral bands, pores and tonal variation belong to the stone. Porcelain or printed stone-look mosaics are different products and need their own specification.

What chip and sheet sizes are available for the travertine mosaic?

This is a custom module configuration with no fixed module size. The order records chip side length, thickness, internal spacing, module dimensions and between-module joints in millimeters. Those dimensions are coordinated with the finished field and border cuts.

Are the travertine holes filled?

Tumbled travertine is usually supplied unfilled for its soft, natural texture. Filled versions are available, so choose the one you want in the order; sealing after installation protects either finish.

How are sheet lines kept out of a square mosaic field?

The module layout keeps the joint spacing constant across sheet boundaries and checks color distribution between adjacent sections, and the tumbled edge and grout finish also affect the line. A dry layout with the actual modules is the best check.

Can the tumbled travertine mosaic be specified for a shower floor?

That application needs review of the actual stone finish, backing, setting materials, drainage and required slip documentation. No wet-floor rating is inferred from the tumbled appearance. A wall installation and a repeatedly wet floor have different exposure conditions.

How is the required travertine mosaic quantity calculated?

The finished field and actual module pitch establish the initial layout. Perimeter cuts, borders, corners, loose pieces and agreed spares are then added as separate quantities. Net square meters alone do not account for every cut or module arrangement.
