Clothing displays, oak merchandise tables and a stone checkout counter in a retail interior

Retail Interior Design

Plan your store around the products you sell and the way customers and staff use the space. We develop sales-floor layouts, display and finish direction, and rendered views, with checkout, fitting and storage areas included in the agreed design brief.

Retail Layouts, Display Direction & Interior Views

We develop the store interior from the sales plan, merchandise brief and project constraints. The design connects product presentation with customer and staff routes, then develops the furniture, finishes and decorative lighting direction for the areas included in the commission.

Design componentContent prepared for review
Sales LayoutProposed display zones, wall and island furniture positions, entrances and the routes considered around the merchandise and service areas.
Display TypesShelving, display cabinets, merchandise tables, hanging or glazed display requirements and their relationship to the products being presented.
Views & FinishAgreed interior views showing fixture proportions, major finish locations, wall treatments and decorative lighting direction, with furniture and material references.
Service AreasCheckout, customer fitting areas where needed, staff access and stock-storage arrangements within the agreed retail brief.

Sales Floors, Checkout & Stock Storage

Merchandise Displays & Customer Routes

We arrange wall displays, floor fixtures and merchandise tables around the product categories, sizes and presentation needs in your brief. The layout considers how customers enter, browse and approach service points, with fixture proportions and access around the selected displays.

Retail Display Fixture Procurement

Checkout, Fitting Areas & Backstock

Checkout positions are considered with the point-of-sale equipment, packing or collection needs and staff access. Apparel fitting areas, customer seating and stock storage can be included where the store brief requires them. The design identifies the area and furniture allocation; specialist equipment, security systems and local building services retain their own design and installation work.

Cabinet & Furniture Shop Drawings

Retail Display Furniture, Finishes & Lighting Direction

We coordinate display furniture and interior finishes with the merchandise being sold. Product proportions, open storage, customer access and the brand references shape the design, while final fixture specifications and required product evidence are developed in the next purchasing or shop-drawing stage.

Shelf, Cabinet & Display-Table Proportions

Merchandise dimensions, hanging or folded presentation and access needs inform the proposed furniture type and size. Open shelves, glazed displays, closed storage and freestanding tables serve different presentation needs. Exact shelf loads, glass and hardware specifications require the selected fixture and supplier information instead of assumptions from the interior view.

Surface Finishes & Material References

We develop the finish relationship between fixture faces, tops, wall treatments and flooring. Color, texture, pattern scale and exposed edges are reviewed against the store direction and merchandise. Physical samples support later product acceptance; a rendered wood tone or surface pattern does not approve a particular supplier finish or production batch.

Decorative Fixtures & Display Lighting Direction

The design identifies the intended relationship of decorative fixtures and display-lighting positions to walls, tables and checkout areas. These choices establish the visual direction for coordination with the lighting and electrical team. Light-level calculations, electrical circuits, emergency lighting, controls and equipment ratings require the appropriate specialist design and product review.

Store Plans, Merchandise & Operating Requirements

We use the merchandise and operating brief to understand what the layout must accommodate. The current site plan, equipment information and any landlord or brand requirements establish the constraints and review contacts for the design.

Retail Design Development & Owner Review

The commission develops from the merchandise and operating brief to the sales-floor arrangement and selected interior views. Consolidated feedback connects the owner’s decisions with comments from the landlord, fixture suppliers and local professional team where they affect the agreed design.

  1. Agree the Areas, Merchandise Brief & Constraints

We review the store plan, product presentation needs, support areas, budget and retained items. Our proposal names the areas, views, design detail and file formats, together with the revision allowance. Missing site information and equipment references are identified before they become fixed layout assumptions.

  2. Develop the Layout, Displays & Finish Direction

We develop display arrangements, checkout and included support areas, then refine the selected views and finishes against consolidated comments. Merchandise fit and staff access are considered alongside appearance. Changes affecting building services, fixture performance or local requirements are referred to the responsible specialist or supplier.

  3. Confirm the Design & Hand Off Fixture Requirements

The owner confirms the accepted layout and furniture and finish direction, with outstanding product decisions identified. We issue the included design files. Fixture procurement and custom shop drawings can then develop product dimensions, construction, samples and price against that direction, with purchase and manufacturing approvals handled on their own.

This commission covers retail interior layout, furniture, finishes and lighting direction. The qualified local team remains responsible for accessibility and fire or egress design, structural and MEP engineering, permits and installation. Owner or landlord acceptance is a separate approval; the design commission does not include construction management or a guaranteed multi-store rollout.

Retail Design Fees, Files & Revisions

Retail design can be commissioned independently or combined with product procurement. The proposal separates the design fee from fixture and material purchases and identifies the included areas, views, file formats and revision allowance.

Store Area, Custom Displays & Design Detail
The fee reflects the area and complexity of the sales and support spaces, requested views, custom display direction and the condition of the existing information. Added departments, fitting areas or different store footprints change the design workload. Surveys, site visits and specialist services are included only when expressly offered.
PDF, Rendered Images & Editable CAD
The agreed handoff can include PDF layouts, rendered images and editable CAD files. Our proposal identifies the drawings, views and formats. Interior files support design review and the next fixture or local design stage; supplier fabrication drawings and locally approved construction documents require their own preparation and review.
Consolidated Feedback & Brief Changes
Our proposal states the included revision rounds within the first retail brief. Extra rounds, additional areas or a changed merchandise concept or design direction are quoted on their own, with any fee and timing effect agreed before that work begins. Corrections to our own errors do not use the customer’s revision allowance.

Retail Interior Design Questions

Can I commission the design without buying the display fixtures?

Yes. Design can be commissioned on its own or combined with procurement. Our proposal identifies the design work, files and fee. Fixture and material purchases follow their own specifications and commercial terms; commissioning the layout does not place a product order.

Can the design retain our existing fixtures or finishes?

Yes. Identify the retained items and provide current photos, verified dimensions and any product information. We develop the proposed layout and finishes around those constraints. The local team or supplier needs to confirm any condition, fixing or interface that affects reuse.

What merchandise information do you need before planning displays?

Product categories, typical dimensions, presentation methods, intended display quantities and storage needs give the design a useful basis. Identify hanging, folded, glazed or open-access requirements and any restricted-access items. Final product changes may require a review of the affected display furniture and layout.

Can you follow our brand manual and landlord requirements?

Yes. Provide the current documents and authorized review contacts with the brief. We use them as design inputs and incorporate the agreed comments into the included work. Approval remains with the brand, owner, landlord or relevant local reviewer; it is not guaranteed by the interior commission.

Can our local fit-out team use the design files?

The proposal can include PDF, rendered images and editable CAD for the agreed handoff. The local professionals, contractors and fixture suppliers verify site information and prepare their construction, installation or manufacturing documents. File delivery does not by itself confer permit approval or unrestricted copyright transfer.

Does the design include electrical, fire and permit drawings?

No. The service develops the interior layout, furniture, finishes and lighting direction. The relevant local professionals handle electrical and other building services, fire and egress design, accessibility review and permit submissions. Their requirements need to be brought into the affected interior decisions before local work proceeds.
